Beyah Grim is the female protagonist of Heart Bones. She's a 19 year old student.
Biography[]
Beyah was born in Kentucky and was the product of a one night stand between her parents Brian and Janean. Her father married a woman named Alana when she was 18. In the progress, she earned a stepsister, Sara, both of whom she first met over a year after the wedding after her mother died and she stayed with her father and the family over the summer. She is very reluctant to give Sara a chance but they eventually bond and become close friends, she even attempts to set Beyah up with her boyfriend's friend and next-door neighbor, Samson, whom she soon falls in love with and has an epic summer romance with. Unfortunately, the day after they have sex for the first time, he's arrested, facing a prison sentence of six years, leaving her heartbroken.
Four years later, she's a law student, wanting to become a criminal defense attorney, thinking her boyfriend got an unfair-lengthy sentence. Samson gets released two years early for good behavior, with Beyah welcoming him out front, much to his surprise. They happily reunite and they passionately kiss on the hood of her car and begin an official relationship together. They spend the day together on the beach, and confess their love for one another.

Beyah is independent, and prefers to be on her own rather than hanging out with people.
Due to her upbringing, she has her trust issues regarding people's intentions towards her as well as having had to learn a lot of skills at a young age, and often lies. She tends to be rather blunt and forward in social interactions.

Beyah first met Samson on the ferry in Texas when she was taking pictures of her and caught her eating used bread. He later, cornered her by the bathroom to give her some money, which led her to believe he was sexually propositioning her. She then stole the memory card from the camera and gave him back the money. Later that day, they met and found out they were going to be neighbors over the summer. They start flirting, and feel an intense, electric chemistry with each other and start a summer romance. She shares with him everything about herself, her deepest secrets and her traumatic childhood and they fall for one another. However, the day after they first have sex, Samson is arrested, facing a six year-long prison sentence, breaking Beyah's heart, forced to move on without him.
Four years later, Samson is released and the two reunite in front of the prison. They spend the day together and confess their love for one another, and begin an official relationship.
