Confess is an American television romance drama series that premiered on April 7, 2017. The show was developed by Lisa Berger for Go90, and it is the first television adaptation of the Confess book and any of Colleen Hoover's books.

Synopsis[]

Auburn Reed is determined to put her challenging past behind her and get her future on track. Now in her mid-twenties and struggling to fund her custody battle for her only son, she stumbles upon the art studio of the talented and charming artist, Owen Gentry. The two wrestle with their developing romance and the secrets they're both keeping until they realize they may risk their future if they don't reveal their pasts to each other.

Differences from the book[]

The following are noted differences between the Confess novel and the TV series adaptation.

Book TV series
Auburn Reed works at a hair salon. Auburn Reed is a nursing assistant working at a nursing home.
The story takes place in Texas. The story takes place in Los Angeles.
Owen-Cat is a real cat. Owen-Cat is a stuffed animal from Owen's childhood.
Auburn lived with her parents and siblings in Portland. After she got pregnant, her parents wanted her to give the baby up for adoption so Lydia took her in. Auburn didn't know her real parents, and lived with a foster family in Portland. After she got pregnant, her foster parents didn't want anything to do with her so Lydia took her in.
Owen is twenty one years old and Auburn is twenty at the beginning of the story, turning twenty one a few chapters in. Owen and Auburn are a few years older than their book counterparts.
Harrison is Owen's best friend. There is no Harrison.
Owen's ex-girlfriend, Hannah, is only mentioned. Hannah appears in the series.
Auburn only has one friend, her roommate Emory. Auburn has two friends Emory Lee and Donna Ricci both work with Auburn.
Emory is a hairdresser. Emory is a nursing assistant.
Emory is caucasian. Emory is asian.
Emory's last name is not revealed. Emory's last name is Lee.
The family name of Adam's family is not revealed The family name of Adam's family is Taylor
Auburn and Owen make love for the first time when Trey was gone for work. Auburn and Owen make love for the first time after they fight in a bar.
Auburn spends her birthday alone and gets wasted later that night and it's rescued from the bar by Owen because Harrison called him. Auburn spends her birthday with Trey and gets wasted another night together with her friends Emory and Donna after Owen stood her up.
When Auburn gets wasted on her birthday she brings Owen to the salon and cuts his hair choppily. This scene doesn't happen in the series
When Trey forces himself on Auburn, he is stopped by Emory who points a gun at his head to stop him. When Trey forces himself on Auburn, Auburn lashes out and Trey stops.
The time between AJ's father's death and the present is 5 years. The time between A.J.'s father's death and the present is longer, in the show it's 10 years.
