Jessica is the main protagonist of the short story The Dress.
Biography[]
Jessica has been dating Chase for two years, expecting him to propose during their anniversary dinner. However, she is self-conscious about her weight, a concern exacerbated by the fact that Chase frequently buys her clothes that are a size too small. During the dinner, Chase reveals that he had planned to propose but wanted her to lose weight first. This moment makes Jessica realize that Chase is selfish, focusing only on her weight and his own desires, leading her to break up with him.
After the breakup, Jessica goes to see Jay, with whom she has developed a close friendship. She confesses that she likes him, and Jay admits that he has been in love with her for the three years they've known each other. They begin a romantic relationship, though Jessica feels some apprehension about their seven-year age gap. Jay reassures her, saying that age doesn't matter to him.
Jessica lives on the eighth floor of her building, just one floor above Jay. They both work for the same software company, and their shared interests have fostered a close friendship before it blossomed into romance.
Physical description[]
Jessica once had a toned physique, but the pandemic has made her more sedentary, resulting in her feeling like a "fluffier" version of herself.
