Established in the early 1830s by pioneering women—Stephanie Cohen, Erica Ramirez, and Brenda Perez—the town began as a trading post for lumberjacks. The founders envisioned something more ambitious, however, and endeavored to develop Plethora into a vibrant center of art, commerce, and culture. While neighboring towns gained fame for their bustling textile industries, Plethora distinguished itself with its lively music scene, diverse culinary offerings, and progressive activities, all of which remain celebrated aspects of the town. The town’s rich arts culture, quaint shops, and welcoming community create an inviting atmosphere that continues to draw visitors. As local residents often say, Plethora holds great significance, encapsulated in the phrase, "It means a lot."[1]
In this setting, Lily Bloom grows up and meets Atlas Corrigan. Lily finds that Atlas is living in an abandoned house on the lot next to her family's home. Her father, Andrew Bloom, serves as the mayor of Plethora. Jenny Bloom, Lily's mother, is reluctant to involve the police regarding Andrew's abuse, fearing it could jeopardize his position.
