Tate Collins is the female protagonist of Ugly Love.
Biography[]
Elizabeth Tate Collins or also known as Tate Collins is a 23 year old ER nurse as well as a CRNA student in order to earn a second nursing degree. Tate moves back to California to move in with her brother, Corbin Collins. While arriving at Corbin's apartment, Tate notices a drunk guy by Corbin's door. Tate thought this drunk guy was handsome. Tate calls Corbin and brings him into the apartment when she is instructed to bring him in by Corbin. Miles is actually a friend of Corbin’s and turns out he lives right across from them.
The next morning, the drunk guy is okay and Tate notices that he is awake and already watching her. He doesn't make a conversation with her. Tate ignores him and the drunk guy asks if they hooked up. Corbin meets the drunk guy and says his name is Miles. After Tate explained everything to Miles, he left, and hours later, she introduced herself to Miles. Miles introduced himself to Tate and she felt attracted to Miles since she met him.
Later on in the book, Miles and Tate start an agreement to have sex with no feelings involved. Miles's rules are: “Don’t ask about my past” and “Don’t expect a future”. It seems easy enough for them both but soon feelings start getting involved. Miles and Tate develop a toxic, not-good relationship and later on, Miles falls in love with Tate but he realizes he has caused enough pain hurting her. She wasn't allowed to ask him any questions from his past life but one day Miles asked Tate about her real name or if Tate was a nickname. Tate was happy that he asked her a question and she said her first name was Elizabeth. Miles loved her name and they didn't talk much.
Throughout the book, we see glimpses of Miles's past and why he’s so close off and rude to Tate. Miles had a very traumatic history when his ex-girlfriend left him because of their son's death. Miles has been traumatized by that experience ever since. Miles and Tate are clearly attracted to and love each other but Miles past puts a hold on Miles wanting to show or love Tate. Near the end of the book, Tate has found her own apartment and gets ready to move out. Tate visits Miles one last time and they exchange goodbyes. When Tate is leaving she cries and Miles catches that. A few minutes after Tate leaves, Corbin comes in and punches Miles. We can now see that Miles clearly loves Tate but he doesn’t stop Tate.
Tate has now been at her new apartment for 2 weeks and deja vu happens because Miles is there. At her front door. She approaches Miles and sees that he’s passed out but starts to pull himself together at her sight. He asks to use the restroom and Tate lets him in but feels like what she’s doing is very wrong. Miles has hurt her too many times and him being there is making her hurt even more knowing that she’ll just give Miles what he wants and he’ll leave again. Miles comes out of the restroom and Tate sees a smile. Tate stares at him and Miles joins her on the couch putting no space between them. Tate waits for his painful words but smiles when Miles admits to missing her. Miles apologizes for everything he’s done to her and explains his past.
By the end, Miles tells Tate he loves her and he proposes to her. They are engaged and about two years later, they get married. Tate is crying but Miles isn’t. Miles didn’t fall in love with Tate, he flew.
About eight months later, Tate gives birth to a baby girl and Miles was happy about his daughter. Miles says she looks exactly like his son who passed away, Clayton. Tate named her daughter, Sam Archer after Samuel who is Cap.
